Successful Completion of Phase One at Two Landmark Projects
Allen & Foxworthy has successfully completed the first phase of scaffolding works at two prestigious projects simultaneously; Winchester Cathedral and Clarendon House in Oxford.
Delivering major projects concurrently always brings logistical and operational challenges. When those projects involve a historic cathedral and a prominent building serving the University of Oxford, the demands surrounding planning, programme, access and protection of the existing structures become even greater.
Supporting historic conservation at Winchester Cathedral
At Winchester Cathedral, Allen & Foxworthy has provided specialist access scaffolding to enable stonemasons to undertake vital repairs to historic stonework above the south nave.
Working within the environment of one of England’s most significant historic buildings requires a particularly considered approach. The scaffold has been designed and erected to provide the craftspeople with safe and effective access while respecting the historic fabric and day-to-day requirements of the Cathedral.
The works form part of Winchester Cathedral’s #StoneByStone campaign, supporting the ongoing conservation of its historic stonework and helping to safeguard the building for future generations.
It is exactly the type of project where scaffolding becomes much more than temporary access, it is an essential part of enabling specialist conservation skills to be applied safely to a landmark building.
Enabling major change at Clarendon House, Oxford
At the same time, Allen & Foxworthy has been delivering the first phase of another complex project at Clarendon House in Oxford.
Here, the access requirements are very different.
The scaffolding is supporting works associated with external curtain walling, structural alterations and multi-level rebuilding as part of a significant transformation of the building.
Located in the heart of Oxford and serving students of the University of Oxford, the project presents its own challenges around logistics, sequencing and coordinating scaffold requirements with an evolving construction programme.
The successful completion of phase one provides the platform for the next stages of the project to progress.
Two projects, one coordinated approach
While Winchester Cathedral and Clarendon House could hardly be more different in terms of the work being undertaken, they share one important requirement: carefully planned access delivered to a demanding programme.
With phase one now successfully completed at both Winchester Cathedral and Clarendon House, Allen & Foxworthy is proud to be playing its part in two important projects. Protecting the past at one while helping to create the future at the other.
